The Helsinki metropolitan area (which includes also the city of Espoo) has only 1 airport, the Helsinki Airport and that is where you should book your flight to.
The accommodation is at Aarnivalkeantie 9, 02100 Espoo, a school building. There are 2 options to reach the accommodation from the airport.
From the airport
By bus:
- The easiest bus connection – and therefore most recommended connection – is by using the bus number 540 and change at Leppävaara station to bus number 550. This will allow you to exit the bus and wait at the same station for the connecting bus.
- As an alternative you can also take bus number 615 from the airport and change to the same bus number 550. You will end up on the same bus, but you will have to find the correct bus stop for the connecting bus.
You will need a regional (SEUTU) ticket, which will cost 5.00€. Tickets can be bought from the bus driver, but if you want to avoid waiting in line it is recommendable to buy tickets from a ticket vending machine. Vending machines accept Euro bills/coins and even your credit card should work.
If you have informed us your arrival time, we may be able to distribute your free public transport tickets at the airport so you can start using them right away! This way you will save the cost of buying the regional ticket!
Be aware that bus driver might not speak English, credit cards are not accepted and he most likely will refuse to accept large (50+) Euro bills.
At the bus stop, ensure that you are waiting in the correct place. Finnish bus stops can stretch over several meters and busses from different bus lines will stop at different places. You should wait close to the sign which indicates your bus number.
With the bus approaching, be sure to signal the driver to stop. Do so by holding out your arm clearly visible until you can see the driver turning on his blinker signaling that he will stop.
Enter the bus through the front door and show your ticket to the bus driver (or buy a ticket from the bus driver if you don’t have one yet). If the bus does not have a display with the next stops name, ask one of the Finns to tell you when it is time to stop the bus. Don’t worry, Finns are generally friendly people and will help you if asked.

By taxi:
Regular taxis can be found from the taxi line outside the terminal. All cars use a taximeter and your final fare might be around 50-60€ (for 1-2 persons). Your fare will already include an airport surcharge and the kilometer fare will depend on how many people will be in the car. If you are interested in more detail about the fares you can for example look at the rates of Taxi Helsinki: https://www.taksihelsinki.fi/en/content/taxi-fares
In addition to regular taxis you will find special (yellow) airport taxis. The idea of that service is that you will share a ride with other travelers which therefore will normally make the fare lower than using a regular taxi. The accommodation and Otaniemi campus are within area 1, which will cost 29.50€ for 1-2 persons. You can get a ride from one of the dedicated yellow airport taxi counters near the arrival hall. It might be that you will have to wait for additional travelers to fill the car. You can find more information about that service on their website: https://www.airporttaxi.fi/
One of the great things in Finland is that in all Taxis you should be able to pay with the most common credit cards – Welcome to Finland!
